It was a good day for the New Hampton trapshooting team, who competed in a triangular against Waverly-Shell Rock and Turkey Valley at Fredericksburg Sportsman’s Club on Monday. 

Going into his senior year, Wyatt Stochl’s best 18-hole score stood at 79.

With just six teams competing in the New Hampton Girls Invitational, the meet moved along swiftly. 

The award for best ricochet off a tree stump Monday at the New Hampton Golf and Country Club went to Chickasaw JV golfer Faith Erdman.

A frigid morning did not stop the New Hampton trapshooting team from having a successful meet at the Fredericksburg Sportsman’s Club, as they took the top two spots, while Turkey Valley placed third. 

In just their second meet of the season on Monday, the New Hampton girls golf team almost broke the school record for the best team score of 166.

It wasn’t the night Turkey Valley boys track coach Mark Scott was hoping for, but he’s not panicking, either, after his team finished fifth at the Nashua-Plainfield Coed Invitational on Tuesday night.

Wind plagued the New Hampton boys golf team, as they fell to Clear Lake 160-182 on Monday. 182 is the exact same total the Chickasaws posted in their victory over Charles City last Friday. 

Here’s the understatement for this particular issue of the New Hampton Tribune: Turkey Valley’s Jalyssa Blazek had herself a day at the Nashua-Plainfield Coed Invitational on Tuesday.

New Hampton coach Scott Freirichs has seen him do it before so he wasn’t surprised in the least that Nolan Usher held off Charles City’s Nick Litterer to win the 800-meter run at Monday’s Decorah Relays.

Of all places for a trapshooting meet on one of the windiest days of the season so far, Osage was not the place to be Monday.

Driving the seventh hole late Monday afternoon, Turkey Valley’s Lucas Scheidel hit the ball, but it didn’t go far on the fareway at the Silver Springs Golf Course in Ossian.

The New Hampton girls track team saw many of their times increase from Friday’s meet in Decorah on Tuesday at the Osage Girls Invite, as lower temperatures made running conditions unfavorable. 

New Hampton had itself a standout day Saturday at the Nashua Invitational trapshooting meet as the Chickasaws’ claimed the team title, had two of the top three boys and two of the top three girls.

The easy lead to the New Hampton boys track team’s trip to Waverly Friday night would be Noah Fenske’s stellar night in the shot put; after all, it isn’t every day a high school shot putter uncorks three throws that travel more than 60 feet.
