Making strides

Lead Summary

Jack Seelhammer put it pretty succinctly Wednesday night after his New Hampton softball team rolled to an 8-3 Northeast Iowa Conference win over Charles City.
“We’re making progress,” he said.
He paused and smiled before adding with emphasis, “We’re making great progress.”
And he’ll lump a loss into that progress as the Chickasaws battled Waverly-Shell Rock, ranked eighth in Class 4A, before falling 5-2 on Monday night.
“I think the girls showed they could play with anyone in the conference on Monday,” Seelhammer said, “and they went out and proved it [Wednesday night].”
The Chickasaws rebounded in a big way in Charles City
Jessie Crooks’ RBI single and a two-run single from Katherine Hemesath staked the Chickasaws to a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Kallie Olson then led off the fourth with a home run to push the lead to 4-0.
