Wanda Florence Batchelder, age 71 of New Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin.
A private family graveside service will be held.
Interment will be in Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point.
Wanda was born on Jan. 17, 1949, in Edgewood, the daughter of Arthur and Florence (Kellogg) Carpenter.
She was raised and attended grade school in Lamont. Wanda was a 1967 graduate of Starmont High School and was a member of the first class to complete all three years at the school.
She then graduated from Upper Iowa College and attained her teaching degree in library science in three years.
On June 10, 1972, Wanda was united in marriage to Philip Batchelder. Two sons were born to this union. The couple later divorced.
Wanda accepted her first teaching assignment in New Hampton as the elementary school librarian. She later became the media specialist and retired after 40 years. Wanda was also a florist. She and Phil ran a greenhouse and floral shop in New Hampton.
Wanda loved fishing, taking walks along the Mississippi River, gardening, and crafting. She loved her family and cherished spending time with them.
Survivors include her two sons, Aaron (Brooke) Batchelder of Central City and Loren (Toni Potter) Batchelder of Waterloo; a special “daughter,” Dawn Hickman of La Crosse, Wisconsin; her companion, Tim Hickman of La Crosse, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Finley Batchelder, Brecken Batchelder, Locklin Batchelder, Lilliana Retzlaff, and Lorelai Retzlaff; her former husband, Philip Batchelder of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Kay (Douglas) Sage of Lamont and Rita (LaVerne) Jones of Manchester; one brother, Ron (Deb) Carpenter of Lamont; and several nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Scott Sage.
