Turnout for Color Run drops but fun doesn’t

Lead Summary

The positive on Saturday is that families had a blast running together. The downside was there were fewer of them taking part in the annual New Hampton Industrial Park Color Run.About 70 participants took part in the 5K run and walk, which was about half the total of a year ago when the race was held in late August.“We had a lot of conflicts with that date, and unfortunately, coming into September, we lost families to things like flag football and soccer,” New Hampton Parks and Recreation Program Manager Tara Hackman said. “We’ll have to regroup and see what we want to do next year.”Still, the fact that families ran or walked together was gratifying.“That’s definitely one thing I love about this race,” Hackman said. “It’s cool to see so many families doing something active together.”The race was sponsored by New Hampton Metal Fab, ATEK Metal Technologies, Croell Redi-Mix, TriMark, Bay Valley Foods, Milkhouse Candles and Precision of New Hampton and all proceeds will go to the new TRIBE bike trail that will connect trails at Mikkelson Park and Industrial Park.“Our sponsors are great, and we couldn’t do this without them,” Hackman said.
