Turkey Valley girls win three of four

Lead Summary

In their final game of the Decorah softball tourney Saturday, Turkey Valley was in a close battle against Osage. The teams exchanged leads during the contest and in the sixth the TV girls took a short-lived 5-4 lead before the Green Devils scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back up 7-5. Then in the top of the seventh the Trojans went ahead. Then they added some insurance runs. And then more. And more. By the time the top of the seventh was done, the TV girls had scored nearly as many runs in that one inning as they had in both of the other games played at Decorah combined. They didn't need all 10 runs, although the Green Devils came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. The 15-9 win capped a 2-1 day for the Lady Trojans as they won 12-4 over Waukon and lost 10-0 to Kee High. On Friday they started the weekend with a 13-3, six-inning win over Riceville.Riceville is the first-round opponent of the TV girls when regionals start on July 5.“It was nice to be able to “scout” out Riceville,” said coach Haley Kriener. “We did a good job being disciplined batters at the plate and connecting on solid hits.”Eighth-grader Jaedyn Winter was 3-for-4 at the plate while both Stephanie Martin and Sadie Nymeyer were 2-for-3, Nymeyer with a double. Morgen Kuennen, Emily Busta and Kassidy Reicks all doubled, Reicks with four RBI.For the full story, please see the June 28 Tribune.
