Turkey Valley falls twice at triangular

Lead Summary

It was hard to miss the “opening-night butterflies” when it came to the Turkey Valley volleyball team.    But despite two straight-set losses — 25-16, 25-23, 26-24 to Upper Iowa Conference foe Lansing Kee and 25-9, 25-7 to Class 3A New Hampton — the Trojans’ new coach sounded a positive note.    “The girls played well,” coach Ethan Adams said. “We had a lot of positives but made some mistakes. They grew a lot in that first match with Kee.”   Turkey Valley committed five service errors in the opening set as Kee built a 16-7 lead on its way to a 25-16 victory.    But the Trojans responded and gave the Hawks two competitive sets.    Down 9-3 in the second set, Lydia Schuchhardt served five consecutive points, including two aces — to spark a 7-1 run and pull Turkey Valley within one at 10-9.
