Trojans get split with TigerHawks

Lead Summary

Thursday went exceedingly well for the Turkey Valley baseball team.Friday? Not so much. The Trojans rallied for a 2-1 win over North Fayette Valley and held a 2-0 lead over the TigerHawks through three innings when Mother Nature reared her ugly head on Thursday. So the two teams met in Jackson Junction Friday morning to finish the game, and it was all North Fayette Valley as it rallied for a 12-2 win and snap the Trojans’ five-game winning streak. And later that day, New Hampton rolled to a 23-0 win over the Trojans, who fell to 6-9.“You get caught with that pitching count thing, and when we couldn’t throw Evan [Busta] for the rest of that [second] game, it made it tough,” Turkey Valley coach Dan Stepan. “But I’ll focus on the positives — the first 10 innings against North was pretty good.”The Trojans got a superlative pitching performance from Cale Reicks, who evened his record at 2-2 with a gutty performance on the mound. The junior gave up an unearned run in the first inning and then settled down to go 6 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, walking three and striking out four.
