Trojan boys come up empty in UIC doubleheader

Lead Summary

It’s hard enough to lose a one-run game, but Turkey Valley endured the same results twice as Edgewood-Colesburg escaped Jackson Junction Monday night with a 6-5 win, followed by a 3-2 victory in game two.Turkey Valley fell to 8-14 after the pair of losses Monday, along with a 9-1 loss to Oelwein the next night. After three innings against Ed-Co, the TV boys were down 4-0 but went ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth before two Viking runs in the top of the seventh gave the visitors the win.“A good comeback, we just couldn't hold onto the lead,” Trojan coach Dan Stepan said. Each team finished with eight hits, but the Trojans left four more runners stranded and had one more error. But on defense they partially made up for the extra error with a pair of double plays. The first was the traditional 6-4-3, from shortstop Evan Drilling to Cale Reicks at second to Jaden Bruess at first.Stepan described the play as “quick and smooth.” “We are hoping to see more of those plays because we have the kids who can do it.”
