Stingy Trojans sweep Starmont

Lead Summary

Even though it was his first varsity one-hitter, Evan Drilling just shrugged after Turkey Valley defeated Starmont 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.“I wasn’t really thinking about the number of hits they got,” said the Trojan sophomore. “I just wanted to throw strikes and let my fielders make plays.”Turkey Valley also won game two, 12-0. After last week — when the Trojans were 0-7 — the wins were a welcome relief.“This was a much better start to our week,” coach Dan Stepan said as most of the crowd was making their way over to the softball diamond. “We only gave up one hit between both games, we didn’t have many errors and we scored enough runs. Last week I think we had 11 hits total in seven games. Today we had 16, that definitely helps win games.”After three innings of scoreless ball in game one, the TV boys put up four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a Riley Schmitt two-RBI double. For the full story, please see the July 1 Tribune.
