Senior Lady Trojans earn all-state honors

Lead Summary

While no Turkey Valley softball player earned first team honors after the 2016 season concluded, the names of two players — Kayla Schaufenbuel and Delaney Lensing — appeared on both the all-district and the all-state lists.    The pair made the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Northeast All-District team and the state honorable mention squad for the Coaches Association.    Yet neither were on the Upper Iowa Conference first team. Lensing and Sadie Nymeyer were named to the second team after the Trojans finished with a 7-11 record in the conference; Schaufenbuel and Emily Busta were listed on the UIC honorable mention squad.    Lensing led the Trojans with a batting average of .451 in all games — that was fourth in the UIC — but in conference games alone the senior batted a whopping .548. That would have been second in the conference, but in Quikstats Iowa — which all schools have to report to — a minimum of 50 at-bats are needed to count among the top of the field and Lensing fell just eight short in UIC games. The rest of the story may be found in the Aug. 5 Tribune.
