Rough patch

Lead Summary

New Hampton softball coach Jack Seelhammer isn’t about to panic, despite the fact that his team dropped three straight games this week.
“I’m not going to lie, I’d like that Waverly-Shell Rock game back,” he said, “but the bottom line is we lost to three good teams. It’s the little things that are hurting us right now but they’re fixable. We’re going to be OK.”
Waverly-Shell Rock started the skid as the Go-Hawks held off the Chickasaws 4-2 on Monday night before New Hampton fell to Waterloo Columbus 11-2 on Wednesday and Class 4A third-ranked Charles City 9-0 on Wednesday.
That Go-Hawk game, though, was one that got away.
New Hampton fought back from an early 2-0 deficit as Lauren Frerichs singled, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first inning and then tied the game when Savannah Anderson doubled and pinch-runner Rachel Rinken scored on Natalie Hoey’s single in the second inning.
The rest of the story may be found in the June 8 Tribune.
