Promising start outdoors

Lead Summary

The New Hampton girls track team kicked off its outdoor season at the Waverly-Shell Rock Co-Ed Invite on Thursday. The meet consisted of fierce competition, as multiple 3A and 4A schools participated in the event. Although they finished sixth out of the eight teams competing, there were a few Chickasaw girls who shined, as they scored 53.5 points as a team.
One of the reasons for the lack of team points was due to the fact that New Hampton was without two of their key contributors.
“Considering that we were running without Olivia Burke and Maddie Usher, I was pleased with the competitiveness of the girls,” New Hampton girls head track coach Jeanette Laures said. “Olivia was out due to a nagging hip issue, and Maddie had the stomach flu.”
