Pesek repeats as all-stater, Hemann named to all-district team

Lead Summary

New Hampton senior centerfielder Hunter Pesek was awarded another all-state selection to cap off an impressive varsity baseball career.
Pesek, who has signed on to play college ball at Bismarck State College in North Dakota, was a repeat third-team all-state pick in Class 2A as postseason awards for all four classes were handed out recently by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association. He was also named to the all-district team, as was fellow senior Austin Hemann, who enjoyed a stellar 2020 campaign.
Pesek cracked the third-team all-state squad last year as a junior. He had another stellar season in 2020, albeit in an abbreviated format as the schedule was reduced due to the Coronavirus.
He led the Chickasaws in almost every offensive category. He was tops on the team in batting average (.385), hits (25) and tied for the team lead in runs scored (24). He was one of the state’s best baserunners – swiping 26 stolen bases in 28 attempts. There is little doubt that if New Hampton had played a full schedule in 2020 that Pesek would have broken the school’s single season stolen base mark of 29, set by Trevor Ambrose in 2016 and tied by Josh Fenske in 2018.
