One down, one to go

Trevor Ambrose doesn’t hit a lot of “might be, could be” home runs; in fact, he hasn’t hit one all year.What the New Hampton senior has done is smacked a Class 2A-leading eight no-doubt homers, the latest a three-run shot to left field Friday night in a 9-8 opening game victory in a doubleheader sweep of Northeast Iowa Conference rival Charles City.“Honestly, I didn’t think I hit it very well. I thought it was going to be a pop up,” he said. “I swear it wasn’t on the barrel but it just went out.”Ambrose might have been the only one in the park who didn’t think the ball was gone when it jumped off his bat, but either way, he’s having a brilliant senior season.He’s hitting .459, and in addition to leading 2A in homers, he has a class-leading 47 RBIs.Still, Friday’s first game wasn’t easy.New Hampton had crushed the Comets 23-0 earlier this season, but Charles City, even after falling behind 8-1 in the fourth inning, wouldn’t go away.And the Chickasaws certainly helped as they made six errors that led to seven unearned Comet runs.For the full story, please see the July 5 Tribune.
