No wins, but tourney will help Trojan boys

Lead Summary

Just one more win will take the Turkey Valley baseball team past the number of wins they had a year ago. The thing is, they only won eight games during the 2015 season, but with five seniors starters gone from that team — and no seniors on this year's squad — the Trojans still have plenty of room for growth. And tournaments like the one the Trojans were in at Don Bosco over the weekend will help, even though the TV boys lost both games in the tourney, 8-1 to Independence and 10-0 to powerhouse Don Bosco. “These weekend games against quality opponents will make us better come tourney time,” coach Dan Stepan said. “We have a great and fun group of kids to work with, they always find a way to entertain themselves and keep the mood light and enjoyable.” Earlier in the week Turkey Valley lost both ends of a doubleheader against Kee High, 10-1 and 5-1.  Cale Reicks and Josh Vsetecka split time on the mound in game one against Kee, with Reicks giving up nine hits and striking out one in four innings and Vsetecka with four hits and two Ks in three innings. “We needed to find a way to get them out, just gave them too many opportunities and we just didn't hit as well as we need to.”  More on the story may be found in the June 28 Tribune.
