New Hampton basketball teams enjoy winning trip

Lead Summary

Both New Hampton basketball coaches got what they wanted Thursday night, and it just wasn’t the wins the Chickasaws came home with from Waterloo Columbus, either.
New Hampton’s girls gave coach Chad Pemble a great start, excellent inside defense and what has become a common occurrence, unselfish play, in the Chickasaws’ 55-47 win.
On the boys side, coach Ryan Rausch got a stellar performance from senior Tristan Sweitzer, who scored 30 points, and an outstanding night at the free-throw line in a 67-45 victory.
Start with the girls, who jumped out to a 14-2 lead and held off the a couple of Sailor comeback attempts as New Hampton improved to 3-2.
“We talked a lot about doing a two things in particular — keep teams from offensive rebounds and outscore our opponents at the free throw line,” Pemble said.
