 Gene C. Larson, age 79, of Chester, passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, due to health issues.Gene was born on Feb. 24, 1937, in Howard County, Lime Springs.  Gene was baptized on July 30, 1939, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs.  Gene attended one room country schools (Chester, and LeRoy, Minn.) graduating 8th grade on May 19, 1953.  Gene married Phyllis Leff on August 14, 1958, by the justice of the peace in Williams Town. Gene enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Survived by his wife Phyllis of 58 years, his six children, Duke (Debbie) Larson of Chester, Terry (Sharon) Larson of Lime Springs, Rex (Sue) Larson of Lime Springs, Bruce Larson of Spring Valley, Minn., and Ginger (Bill Nelson) Larson of Spring Valley, Minn., and Todd Larson of Riceville, 10 grandchildren Toni (Kyle) Johnson, Mary Jo (Brandon) Knox, Tammy Larson, Amber Larson, Jessica Larson, Kelsey (Ryan) Henry, Matthew (Becca) Jacobson, Joshua Jacobson, Corey Jacobson, and Sayde Larson, 18 great grandchildren, and his sister Kay (Olaf) Stokstad from Oregon, Wisc.Gene was preceded in death by his granddaughter Amy Kathleen Larson and parents Ruth Irene Baarsch and Sam Larson.Funeral services for Gene will be held at 10:30 a.m. at LeRoy Lutheran Church with Pastor Hermann Bakker officiating. Burial will be in Chester Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and one hour before the service at the church.
