Fighting to the very end

Lead Summary

Matt Paulus and his New Hampton/Turkey Valley team knew the hurdle was huge, and although they didn’t quite overcome it, the Chickasaws acquitted themselves quite well in a 39-27 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock last Thursday.
The Go-Hawks came in ranked No. 1 in Class 3A and have appeared in several national rankings this winter. New Hampton, meanwhile, was without one of its top wrestlers, Hunter Pesek, who suffered a knee injury before Christmas and is expected to return to the lineup soon.
But the rout some expected never materialized as the Chickasaws won seven of the 13 matches contested on the mat — Waverly-Shell Rock received one forfeit — and that had Paulus smiling.
