Chickasaws roll to Crestwood volleyball crown

Lead Summary

It was a guessing game Saturday for New Hampton’s opponents at the Crestwood Invitational.    And they guessed wrong as the Chickasaws used a balance hitting attack to run past six opponents and claim the tournament title.    “Well, for us, it’s huge,” New Hampton coach Jess Geerts when asked about the Chickasaws’ balanced hitting attack. “If they want to shut down someone, fine, we have a lot of other options. We can definitely keep our opponents guessing.”    New Hampton rebounded from a tough five-set loss to Charles City and were unquestionably the class of the tournament as the Chickasaws won all 12 sets they played by a combined score of 252-152.    “When you play six matches, it’s not going to be all perfect,” Geerts said, “but for the most part, I liked out intensity and I liked the way we played up to our ability. We were probably the favorites, but we didn’t play ‘down,’ if you will, that often.”
