Chickasaws give it a battle at Waterloo dual tourney

Lead Summary

New Hampton/Turkey Valley isn’t used to going 2-4 at the Battle of the Waterloo, but coach Matt Paulus has no qualms about the way his team wrestled this past weekend at one of the best dual tournaments in Iowa.
Coming off three blowout wins earlier in the week, New Hampton/Turkey Valley went 1-2 on Friday to finish sixth in its bracket and then went 1-2 again the following day. But the Chickasaws were figuratively inches away from ending their pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a 3-0 record on Saturday.
“I was actually pretty pleased with the way we wrestled at the Battle,” Paulus said. “That second day is always a dogfight, and we lose one meet on the seventh or eighth criteria and another by one point. We kept battling, we kept fighting, and that’s all I’m asking from these guys.”
