Chickasaws endure tough night

 Thursday night was a gloomy one at the New Hampton softball diamond. And it wasn’t just the doubleheader loss the Chickasaws girls suffered at the hands of Charles City.It was also Senior Night.“It’s sad thinking that our time on this diamond is almost over,” said infielder Jessie Crooks. The NH girls have only one more home game, against North Fayette Valley on Wednesday.Joining Crooks in saying goodbye to the program’s fans were fellow senior-manager Baily Fye and players Haley O’Donnell, Karly Fitzgerald, Katherine Hemesath, Abby Boyd and Abby Gossling.Crooks has been a varsity starter her entire high school career and had a chance to play during her tenure with her sisters Becca and Megan.“I loved playing with them both but I also love this team I’m with now, they’re also like family.”After a 16-1 first-game loss — and after the seniors were honored — New Hampton played a close nitecap game against the Comets, but lost 5-3.Although the Chickasaws only had two hits in game one, they had runners in all but the fifth inning, but most of them reached on Comet errors.The rest of the story may be found in the June 28 Tribune.
