Chickasaws clinch third straight NEIC baseball title

Lead Summary

Make it three in a row for the New Hampton baseball team.
The Chickasaws swept Charles City on Friday night and two Waverly-Shell Rock losses — 2-1 in 10 innings and 4-2 — to Decorah clinched the outright title for New Hampton for a third straight season.
New Hampton's 5-0 and 9-2 wins over the Comets came in Waverly because Sportsman's Park in Charles City was flooded by rains earlier this week.
Coach Cory McDonald's team, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, got a three-hitter from senior Noah Hopp to win the first game before the two Keegans — Tenge and Kane — pitched New Hampton to a third straight NEIC title.
The Chickasaws improved to 26-2 overall and 15-1 in NEIC play, and New Hampton wraps up conference play on Monday with a doubleheader against Waukon on Senior Parent Night.
