Babcock dominates in state title match

Lead Summary

Carson Babcock made it look easy and ended his high school with a Class 2A state championship.
Getting a takedown in every period, the New Hampton/Turkey Valley senior rolled to a 7-0 win over Sioux City Heelan’s Mitchell Jonies to claim the 170-pound title and cap off an unbeaten season.
Babcock finished the season 46-0 and became NH/TV coach Matt Paulus’ second state champion after Evan Rosonke won the 195-pound title in 2020.
The Chickasaws' other finalist, Jacob Reicks, ran into a buzz saw in the form of West Delaware's Wyatt Voelker, who beat the Chickasaw senior 13-5 in the 195-pound title match. Reicks finished the season 46-2, with his only two losses coming to Voelker.
